NetGift Registry Debuts On The New York Times On The Web
Readers of respected newspaper can now access Netgift
Business Wire-November 25, 1999
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC and New York, NY - Adding to its network of
68 different websites, NetGift Registry Chief Executive Officer Steve
Furst announced his company's debut on The New York Times on the Web.
Through an arrangement with The New York Times online edition to become
a permanent link in their Marketplace section, NetGift plans to reach
the millions of users that visit NYTimes.com every month.
NetGift Registry, the first and largest network
of distributed online gift registries, has announced that it will
open a San Francisco business development office.
Through arrangements with its affiliates and partners, NetGift is now
positioned as the world's largest online gift registry. NetGift has
both the largest network of gift registry entry sites and at over 3
million products, they have the largest number of items available in a
registry on the Internet.
"We are excited to have signed this agreement with The New York Times
because they are the standard-bearer in coverage of world events - their
reputatation is unparalelled in the media," said NetGift CEO Steve
Furst. "We are also excited because we are able to bring a gift
registry with access to millions of items from over 300 stores to the
8.7 million NYTimes.com registered users."
Furst added that the top notch reporting of The New York Times attracts
a high volume of readers on their website. The New York Times has won 79
Pulitzer Prizes, 36 more than any other news organization and the paper
has over 1,000 reporters and editors working in 9 national bureaus and
29 international bureaus.
"This first quality content attracts many educated and professional
users who want to keep track of world and national events, making the
NYTimes.com user demographics especially appealing for NetGift," Furst
said.
According to third party research, readers of The New York Times on the
Web have the highest percentage of readers of any news site who buy --
both online and offline -- for personal and business purposes.
"New York Times on the Web readers are perfect matches for our
convenient gift registry," said Furst. "The average household income of
NYTimes.com users is over $80,000 and a majority of them make purchases
or reservations online."
NetGift will appear in the NYTimes.com website Marketplace and special
Gift areas. In those sections, NetGift will be visible as permanent
text links and animated buttons, as well as rotational banners.
Visitors to The New York Times on the Web and other NetGift Registry
network sites can list the gifts they want in the online registry.
Family and friends can then access the registry anywhere via the
Internet and buy those gifts at the click of button. Users can also
shop on the site without making a gift list.
"NetGift is different from other gift registries in that we offer over
340 different quality online merchants," said Furst.
Furst said NYTimes.com is only one of many different websites that make
up the NetGift Registry Network. According to Furst, NetGift will have
permanent placement on other popular websites including USAToday.com,
WashingtonPost.com, Children's Miracle Network, LATimes.com,
Knight-Ridder's nationwide Real Cities Network, and dozens more top
Internet sites.
"Our goal is to have the NetGift Registry in front of every user on the
Internet," said Furst. "We're going to where the people are across the
Web."
