Gift Registry in a Box

Even though you can implement the NetGift Registry on your site in a matter of days, the underlying technology is quite sophisticated. The information below explains the architecture and the process flow of the registration of information inside the registry.

Site Flow
The following figure provides a high-level look at the Gift Registry-In-A-Box solution. The Partner Gateway page is the entry point to the customized Box pages NetGift hosts for the merchant. There are three primary entry points: a product detail page where shoppers click on an "Add this item to my Gift Registry" link, a "My Gift List" link, and a "Find Member" link. These high-level entry points are described in the Gift Registry-In-A-Box Implementation Guide. However, almost every Box page is available for partners to link to as long as the appropriate URL referral parameters are specified. The Gift Registry-In-A-Box Referral Specifications (the "Hooks") describe the available links and parameters in greater detail. You will receive this document after signing up.

There are three basic integration points with the Box, They include:
  1. The Add to Registry button and link on a product detail or search result page. The link transfers all the information about your product to the gift registry.
  2. The link to 'Find Member' which enables users to look up members by name or email address.
  3. The link to 'My Gift List', which is a link to the member's gift list.
  4. The final integration point is the purchase transaction/confirmation interface that is actually performed behind the scenes after a purchase of an item from a member's Gift List has been completed.

Customization Options
The templates contain a variety of customization options. Each Box page has the following structure:

The partner has control over the header, sidebar, and footer elements.
NetGift expects an HTML Include file, which contains or has links to the appropriate collateral (e.g. images). If no Include files are utilized by the partner, then a placeholder include file must be provided. If the partner does not provide an include file, the default includes will be used.

Within the body of a page are several customizable areas. The following chart provides a quick summary of the v1.1 elements. More elements and controls are currently being added to this group for v2.0.

Note that the partner can control each of these elements, along with the Include file uploads, through an administration tool provided by NetGift. This tool enables the partner to make changes, preview the changes, and otherwise validate the look and feel of the pages within their timing and schedule.
