NetGift Founder Ed Fadel Named As New CEO of NetGift
December 1, 1999
New CEO wants NetGift to be the industry standard in gift registries
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC - NetGift Registry, the leading online
gift registry service provider, announced today that Ed Fadel has been named the new Chief Executive
Officer of the company.
After first creating and coming up with the idea for the company in 1998 and acting as its first chairman,
Fadel returns to lead NetGift as it continues to
market its gift registry technology to both retailers and
content sites across its growing network on the Internet.
"Our mission is to become the de facto gift registry for the consumer on the Internet," said Fadel. "NetGift
is accomplishing this by providing state of the art gift registry services to a wide range of partners. These
gift registries are tied together as a network to allow consumers to access their gift
registry anywhere on the network in virtually every corner of the Internet. The idea is simple
but powerful...become the internet's standard gift registry service."
NetGift has already compiled an impressive list of affiliates and partners including USAToday.com,
Homestead.com, NYTimes.com, Knight-Ridder Newspapers and Real Cities Network, WashingtonPost.com,
LATimes.com, Excite, WebJump, and more.
"NetGift now has the opportunity to achieve a critical mass of retailers, content sites, community sites,
and others to dominate the gift-giving and registry market," said Fadel. "I am very excited to be leading
this company into this rapidly expanding online market."
Fadel describes himself as a serial entrepreneur. In 1987, Fadel founded CD Superstore and quickly
grew the company to over $35 million in sales with over 300 employees. In 1994, CD Superstore was
sold to Borders Group, at the time a subsidiary of K-Mart and now the $2 billion parent company of Waldenbooks
and Borders Books. Fadel operated the company as one of three divisions of Borders Group, experiencing
the IPO process and the operations of a public company.
In 1998, Fadel founded Fusion Ventures, a seed-stage venture capital fund and full services venture
incubator. Fusion Ventures provided seed money to NetGift, as well as providing valuable services
to the company in its formative stages.
Fadel is a graduate of Duke University and lives in Durham with his wife and three children.
